The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
The DDA requires service providers to improve disabled access and provide an equal service to their customers with disabilities. Access Protection offers a comprehensive range of equipment to enable service providers to comply with DDA Legislation.DRC (Disability Rights Commission) will pursue cases in court where they feel that a person has been discriminated against due to their disability so the legislation cannot be ignored. Those service providers who do not take reasonable steps to make their services accessible to ALL, may find themselves facing legal action.
Access Protection aim to ensure that their range of DDA products enable all service providers are as DDA compliant as they can be. Depending on the size of the organisation some will have to do more than others but all service providers have to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people and therefore should be aware of their responsibilities and be seeking ways to improve access to their services.
For the Hard of Hearing, we have a range of Induction Loops to suit all environments. Sight Impaired customers can be catered for with colour contrasting signage and Customer Care Kits. If any of your customers have a mobility impairment we can offer platform lifts, fold down counters, modular handrails, portable ramps and call systems.
Some service providers still view the DDA as simply imposing extra costs and legal obligations. However with more than 20% of the UK population (8.6 million people) having physical, sensory or mental impairments, there is a sound business case for making goods and services more accessible.
Disabled customers have an annual spend of over £56 billion so by making reasonable adjustments and improving access, the result can only mean more customers, leading to a higher turnover and a better service to the community.
